The 2018 Fourth Friday Art Walk season kicks off this Friday (February 23) with galleries and shops in downtown Ste. Genevieve showcasing the work of local artists.
The monthly art walk takes place from 6 to 9 p.m.
The theme for the February event is Mardi Gras.
The art walks are sponsored by Downtown Ste. Genevieve, formerly the Downtown Renewal Project. The series continues through October with a different theme each month, which were recently announced with some new wrinkles for 2018.
The theme for March 23 is Kilt Night to help promote the organization’s new Scottish Days on April 7 and 8.
The theme for April 27 is Run for the Roses, ahead of horse racing’s Kentucky Derby.
May 25, also Memorial Day weekend, will be a car show theme. June 22 will be the annual ice cream social theme, July 27 will be Hawaiian luau, and August 24 will be hometown pride with the high school football season underway.
The theme for September 28 will be Oktoberfest, to promote another new Downtown Ste. Genevieve event, scheduled for September 29.
And the series will close on October 26 with the Halloween theme and annual pet costume parade.
This week’s art walk will also mark the opening of a new business for Ste. Genevieve. Sassafrass Creek Originals will be open Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 311 St. Mary’s Road. The store features early American folk art.
