Russell Goodale Martin
BATH – Russell Goodale Martin, retired licensed professional engineer, passed away unexpectedly on April 25, 2021 at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville after a short illness.
Russ was born in Belgrade on Nov. 24, 1949, the son of Robert “Bob” and Dorothy “Dottie” Martin. As a child he enjoyed music, sports and especially putting together model cars which were displayed in his home for years.
Upon graduating from Belgrade Central High School in 1968 Russ went to the University of Maine in Orono where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He started his career working for D.O.T. in 1973 counting traffic and soon worked for the Department of Human Services Division of Environmental Health where he stayed until his early retirement in 1990. Russ was also a member of the Maine Society of Professional Engineers in which he was very involved. He then started his own personal business in wastewater management called Public Health Solutions up until his passing.
Russ thoroughly enjoyed his work and was liked by all who met him. He had no enemies. He was also an avid runner, running in many marathons in which he received trophies and awards. Russ did remain single. He also loved music and had quite a selection of LP albums that were always kept in the best condition. He loved to play golf and ride around during the summer in his antique 1973 Chevy Caprice Classic convertible.
Russell was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Dottie Martin.
He is survived by his brother, William “Bill” and his wife Diane Martin of Belgrade, his sister, Linda and husband Stephen Fotter of Benton.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade at a later date.
